Hickman, Johnson & Simmonds was established in 1886 in downtown Knoxville. The office was on the 10th floor of the then Hamilton Bank building. Mr. Hickman lived across the street in the Admiral Hotel building and spent most of his time talking and meeting with the local vendors and people who came into town to do business.
